In the project Groene Poort, five kilometers of banks of the Nieuwe Waterweg will be developed into nature development areas, by diminishing the effects of wave energy. For this, dams will be built between groynes and parallel to the banks. Materials used for the dams are local construction residues. Moreover, sediment, originating from the Nieuwe Waterweg itself, will be added to create less depths. The monitoring of the developments in this area is carried out by HZ University of Applied Sciences and by students of the Hogeschool Rotterdam UAS. HZ will be involved in developing the ecological part of the monitoring plan as well as making instruction materials for all monitoring procedures, for students (of the HRo).
This assignment will focus on elaborating the basic biochemical and water quality parameters that are essential for the monitoring of ecology carrying out the first measurements and evaluating what type of vegetation is likely to develop first.
You will be stationed at Deltares in Delft and work regularly at the test site Groene Poort. Deltares offers a “stagevergoeding” and can –if needed- assist in (but nog guarantee) housing during the internship period.
